Director of Development & Marketing
Under the supervision of the Board, the Director of Development and Marketing will coordinate and manage fundraising, memberships, grantsmanships and sponsorships as well as identify and cultivate community partnerships. We are seeking a self-directed, creative individual who is committed to furthering our mission. While it is not necessary to be a mental health professional, we do expect our Director of Development and Marketing to be well versed in our signature programs and to embrace our philosophy of mental health education, advocacy and support.
Representative Work Functions and Responsibilities:

Develops and implements strategies, systems, annual campaigns and other fundraising program plans for identifying, qualifying, cultivating and soliciting current and prospective donors; manages a portfolio of donors (individuals and corporations).

Designs a marketing plan including development of an annual calendar of promotional milestones (e.g. solicitation letters, newsletters, publication materials, website content, press releases, etc.), regular contact with existing donors via direct mail or electronic communication, and performance measures to determine program effectiveness.

Organizes donor recognition and fund-raising events, particularly in coordination with key events such as the NAMI Walk, Giving Tuesday, National Mental Health Awareness month, etc.

Identifies grants for furthering strategic goals and coordinates grant application submittal.

Develops and sustains positive relationships with both existing and new individual and corporate donors; works with local and regional businesses (including military) to develop partnerships to develop/enhance programs; proactively conducts follow-ups, as appropriate, with the goal of obtaining future giving or increasing current giving.

Manages a comprehensive prospect management system and ensures data integrity; utilizes prospect research tools for gathering data on current and prospective donors; ensures timely acknowledgement of all gifts; maintains donor confidentiality and privacy as appropriate.

Manages organization’s resources by recommending a yearly budget for board approval, performing fiscal management of grants and contracts, supporting the treasurer and finance committee to ensure effective policies are developed and enforced.

Engages with board members and community leaders; participates on a variety of boards, coalitions, etc. with a similar mission; attends and participates in professional group meetings and in local events to keep current on community activities.

Maintains currency on new trends/advances in the field of fundraising and development.

Participates in local, state and national mental health forums, discussions and conferences.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested to support the organization.
Minimum Requirements:
Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or related fund-raising experience equivalent to six years. Bachelor’s degree in a related field (public health, public administration, non-profit management, communications, etc.) and at least two years specific experience managing annual giving and/or major gift programs preferred. Professional certification in non-profit fund-raising is desirable, but not required.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a typical office environment with a high standard of confidentiality. The typical work week is 40 hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but flexible scheduling will be available when evening/weekend hours are required. Periodic travel throughout our service area required (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and the Eastern Shore of Virginia) as well as to the NAMI state office in Richmond, Virginia. Business travel of this nature will be eligible for mileage reimbursement.
Compensation:
This position offers a starting salary range of $45,000 - $50,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position. NAMI Coastal Virginia provides paid time off, mileage reimbursement and travel expenses for state/national conferences. Health/dental care coverage assistance will be provided.
