OUR MISSION
NAMI Coastal Virginia exists to improve the lives of individuals who suffer from mental illness and the family and friends that love and support them. We lead positive social change to eradicate the stigma associated with mental health conditions through advocacy, information, support, and connection.

OUR APPROACH
Mental Illness is a physical condition that disrupts a person's thinking, feeling, mood, daily functioning, and ability to relate to others, often resulting in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life. The good news about mental illness is that recovery is possible.
One in four adults experiences a mental health disorder in a given year. Fewer than one-third of adults and one-half of children with a mental health condition receive mental health services in a given year.
NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of people affected by a mental health condition. NAMI Coastal Virginia is an affiliate of NAMI Virginia.
Comprised almost entirely of dedicated volunteer members and leaders, we work tirelessly to raise awareness and provide essential education, advocacy, and support group programs for people in our community living with a mental health condition and their loved ones. We are a pioneer in peer education, giving people a place to turn to find a strong network of support and the tools to reclaim their lives.
